Why the Active Commute is a Game-Changer

You don’t need to make time or spend money

Living in a big city can be a false economy. We think we are earning more in city jobs, but then we spend so much on either public transport or parking.

Then there is the fitness side of things. Gyms in the city cost a fortune. Healthy food isn’t exactly cheap either.

Last year we moved further out of our city. This made rent affordable, but in turn our travel costs went up.

In a couple of weeks I’m moving my day job from an inner city hospital to an outer city one. I will once again be within an hours cycle of work, and I can’t wait to get back to my active commute.

Triple threat

I think of the active commute as a ‘triple threat’ life hack. It does three really cool things for me.

  1. It stops me giving my hard earned wages to the transport company. Frankly, those guys have enough for their shareholders. Plus, the constant strikes are getting harder to live with.
  2. It saves me paying for the gym. I get all my cardio from cycling or running to and from work. On the weekends I use my little weights bench at home, and that’s all I need.
