The Rise of the Virtual Runner

Until just a few days ago, I had never been that interested in running a virtual race, or at least not the kind where you run by yourself, then send in a screen shot of your Strava proof and receive a medal.
I know these are motivating for lots of people, but I think the thing I love most about a race is the buzz of the event, the atmosphere, and the strangers cheering me on. So to me a solo run just feels like a solo run. Nice, good for my mental health, and essential for my training plan — but that’s all.
But with so many of our running events being axed for the year, most recently New York Marathon, the chances of enjoying the thrill of a big challenge in a public arena is feeling farther and farther away.

With my mental health taking a nose dive from the general Covid-ness of life right now, I needed something new to focus on.
And not just any focus — but one that wasn’t on solving my financial issues or navigating the supermarkets. I needed to focus on something that was about living life and having adventures.
